Help me give my students a countertop ice maker, bedside table, shelving storage unit, and more, to have the best options when it comes to treating injuries and staying healthy in the high school setting!
I encounter many students on a day-to-day basis, teaching about asthma, diabetes, and many other common health care concerns such as fractures and nosebleeds. These students are from a small town community and are so willing to help each other and go out of their way to care for each other. They are smart, caring, and capable individuals who deserve the world. However, some of them are lacking the means to do so. The staff at BEHS are here to provide every means available to us to help them succeed in their every endeavor! We love these students and this school is more like a family!
My Project
I was a nurse in the emergency room before starting as a school nurse and I am also a mom. I can apply both of those skill sets in my job as a school nurse. I have learned that the needs of my students have evolved over the years.
From heat/ice packs to a mobile carrying unit, if they needed to be moved safely prior to EMS arrival, the needs of my students are vast and ever changing; I want to give my students here the best options when it comes to treating their injuries and caring for their health in total.
I have a small refrigerator but no ice maker; I prefer the smaller cubes to help better place ice to injured locations. The heat packs will make it so that students in certain situations can stay at school and not have to leave to go home for treatment. They are also reusable and I will be able to treat many with them. I have come into a large recent donation of clothes from our local families in order to help my students who find themselves in need of a new shirt or pair of pants/shorts and don't have a way to get home to get them. The storage containers and the shelving unit will be used to hold these items. The de-choker is something I have found and purchased since becoming a mother and I pray I never have to use it- at home or here at school.
All in all, these items will benefit my students in ways that cannot be expressed. My students are so thankful for the options available through past donations and I am always proud to announce where those options came from. The past items donated have allowed so many students to stay in school!
