Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Men love to wonder, and that is the seed of science." Children live in a world of wonder and imagination, where every new discovery opens up more possibilities. With new science materials, we can encourage their sense of curiosity through scientific experiments.

My students attend a K-5 charter school in Phoenix, Arizona.

Our school is focused on academic excellence and leadership development. Our students are preparing to be "future leaders". They work hard developing and demonstrating the characteristics of honesty, leadership, respect, responsibility, self-control, and social responsibility. They can describe each characteristic and tell you what it looks like inside and outside of the school. Each student pushes for excellence in every aspect of their academic careers.

My Project

The science kits will allow my students to become active learners. Science information in a book will come alive when they are touching, manipulating, and experimenting with a variety of materials. Science, by definition, is knowledge attained through study and practice. In order to get adequate practice, students need the science kits which come with materials necessary to do experiments and explorations in a variety of areas.

When children are young, they embrace imagination and live everyday asking questions and exploring the world around them.

We want to encourage the continuation of this curious mindset well into adulthood as it fosters critical thinking skills and the ability to "think outside the box". Science is more than just facts, it is the ability to appreciate, hypothesize, dispute, interact, and transform the world around them.
