Embracing Professional Writing Skills

Help me give my students the opportunity to see their writing on paper with a printer.

My Project

I have been a Special Education teacher for over 12 years and last year was my first year teaching a general education classroom in writing. As I asked for feedback from my students at the end of the school year about how I can make writing better, there was one common request...a printer in class. When I asked them why, this was their response...

"We did a ton of writing in this class and it would have been nice to see it on paper professionally done, we are ‘old school!’”

This made laugh and that's what makes each and every student I teach matter. If our classroom had a printer for them to use, they would see on paper how important it is to embrace the skill of editing, exchanging papers with their peers for peer editing and to see how their papers can transform into a very well-written story or essay. Yes, having Google Docs or Microsoft Word is great to use, but allowing students the opportunity to utilize the printer to see their final product is important. They are proud and a printer would only enhance that confidence in them. I humbly ask for your help so I am able to provide a more enriching environment in writing and a skill in life our students will never forget. Mahalo Nui! Thank you!
