This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the pleasure of working with funny, intelligent middle school students in the Bronx. My students are apart of our advisory program. Every student has a counselor and every class has advisory every day. Some of our students are new to the country. Some students are living in shelters. Some are in single family homes. Our hygiene program will allow our students to focus on their studies and not worry about anything else. We want our school to be a safe space.
My Project
My students will learn self-care is very important. Every day we stress the importance of self love, self respect and confidence. A lot of my students come from single parent households. As a middle schooler it's hard enough to transition from elementary to middle school, learning about the changes surrounding their bodies and supporting healthy hygiene. Students need to be able to ask question about what is going on with their body. School should be a safe zone to ask any question without judgment and students should have the deodorant, moisturizer and supplies to support healthy hygiene. Students need to know that during this time in their life they have adults that they can turn to when they feel like they are alone during this confusing time of growth.
