This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you or someone you know been a victim of bullying? My brave students are putting on two productions to empower people to stand up to bullies and teach people about LGBT issues facing today's youth.
My advanced acting class is a grand mix of cultural backgrounds and sexual identities.
They have spent the past six months getting to know each other, sharing their personal struggles with fitting in. They have accepted each other for who they are and want to share their stories through characters in two anti-bullying shows.
The majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students will be the first in their family to attend college, and some will be the first to graduate high school.
My Project
My students want to use these materials to make costumes and build a full set. They will make two revolving screens, two disappearing boxes, and one platform. They will cut and sew a large curtain to hang across our classroom's windows to keep out the light. They will also have a huge tie-dyeing party to make matching shirts for their characters. They will learn important building and construction safety skills while strengthening their team.
My students deserve to have their vision come to life.
They want to educate as many people as possible about the effects of bullying. This project has the potential to impact hundreds of youth in our school and the surrounding community. My students will learn that their work is important and necessary and that they can help people understand where LGBT youth are coming from.
