Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from various economic backgrounds, with over seventy-seven percent of our students receiving free lunch. Our students speak a multitude of languages. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are also diverse in their academics.

My students are enthusiastic, eager groups of third-grade students from very diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Our school is a Title One school. My students are excited about learning and want to do well. Our class includes gifted learners, English language learners, and students with academic disabilities.

My Project

Teaching diversity exposes students to various cultural and social groups, preparing students to become better citizens in their communities. I want to create a safe space for students to learn about diversity. Students will have books to explore and read in this project and a fun arts and crafts project where they will learn to weave. Students will create a loom and knit together fun, cuddly friends that are diverse in several colors. The colors selected are a neutral base yet diverse to see how blending creates beauty. All our students in our communities are unique individuals. It is important to use that fact to build diverse and inclusive school culture.

Classrooms are becoming more diverse every year, which means cultural diversity is becoming an increasingly important issue for teachers.

Ignoring diversity is not a helpful response. I believe we should, as educators, embrace diversity and foster culturally inclusive classrooms designed to help every student succeed.
