My Students
I am a first-year Special Education teacher of 12 inquisitive young minds ranging from the ages of 8-10. Our school is located in a diverse neighborhood and currently a Title 1 school that is beginning to transition into the Teachers' College Curriculum. My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds; some of which are from low-income homes. Nonetheless, they are a spirited and very energectic bunch. My classroom consists of students with autism, ADHD, learning disabilties, and developmental and communicative delays.
I am working on meeting my students' learning needs by creating a space that provides the best educational experiences.
This will be a space they can call a second home as they are encouraged to be themselves and try their best always. I believe students with special needs require an educational space with much differentiated instruction and the essential tools required to target their learning styles. With your help, this can definitely be possible.
My Project
Teaching can definitely be presented through different lenses. As such, I want to find a more productive and engaging way to model examples for my scholars. A lot of my scholars learn from visuals and of course through the modeling. Within the classroom, our mini lessons are structured is a format: I do, We do, You do. The Elmo or documentation camera will allow myself to truly exemplify what is expected of my students. They will be able to observe how I model note taking, sentence structures, and so much more skills using an actual piece of paper, manipulatives, etc.
Ultimate learning occurs when the students are fully engaged in the learning process; because they become a part of the growth and progress within the classroom.
The Elmo magnifies attention, awareness of technology, and ultimately the necessary team work between teacher and scholars; as they work together towards achieving goals.
