ELMO Helps With All Levels Of Math

My students need an Elmo Visual Presenter to be able to easily see math as it is presented to them.

My Students

Mainstreaming is fast and approaching our district. With a great variety of students already, and the more that will always come, my students and I need dynamic ways to differentiate the way math is presented to them. It's a world of technology, and students respond to technology!

We are a Distinguished High School in Northern CA, I have had a huge array of students as high as Precalculus to RSP Algebra.

More than a quarter of my students are RSP and all have IEPs. While all 9th to 12th graders, their skill levels range from basic arithmetic to derivatives. We are headed towards mainstreaming and their diversity is only going to increase.

My Project

As mentioned, over a quarter of my students have IEPs (Individual Education Plans) and the need is always how to differentiate their learning. Visual, hands-on, and dynamic activities are always needed and definitely help keep students engaged to learn. With a new document camera, we are not limited to an overhead projector and the whiteboard. Most importantly, I feel I can display different medias, audio and visual, all with the same device. To help my students, I always hand out a template of my lesson notes, and now I can show students a copy of the exact same notes that I pass out to them without having to explain where on the notes I am or without having to use overhead markers on a transparency the same size of their papers. The document reader also comes with a remote which allows me to control my images while being able to walk the room to keep students engaged. A new document reader not only would advance technology, but provide more options to differentiate learning.

48 IEPs, 48 students with hundreds of needs.

Can't meet all, but the more variety I add, more I can meet. The most technology our class has is an overhead projector. We have already used 4 bulbs, 2 projectors, and 300+ transparencies. I provide lesson notes as examples, I have also printed every page of notes on transparencies. Our school has been promised projectors by 2013, but as needed, I've borrowed one, so along with an ELMO, my class is set. Thank you for your concern and donation!
