My students need an Epson document camera, to learn how to organize notes, annotate texts, correct grammar, and edit writing.

My Students
Help us learn to read and write! Do you ever remember sitting in a class, listening to the teacher, and it seemed like they were speaking another language? You felt lost and embarrassed, reluctant to raise your hand for clarification because you didn't want to look like a fool.
My students come from impoverished families where many of them have to work jobs to help put food on the table and a roof over their heads.
They don't have the same worries as we did at their age. Many of my students are raised by people other than their parents because one or both of their parents are dead or in jail due to drug or gang related violence. Their parents believe that at 15 years old they are capable of taking care of themselves and don't enforce curfew or bedtime and are not there in the morning to make sure that they get up on time, eat a healthy breakfast, and make it safely to school by first bell. In addition to the everyday life struggles my students face, they are also dealing with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, Emotional Mental Handicaps, Behavior Disorders, and bullying because of their differences. My students lack structure and organization in their lives and struggle with applying these skills in the classroom. They want nothing more than to fit in.
My Project
My students are visual, kinesthetic learners, who learn best when they can visually see exactly what they need to write and how they are expected to write it. My students struggle with everything from spelling and grammar to formatting and note-taking. Having and ELMO(document camera)in our classroom, will allow students to follow along and take notes as I model appropriate note-taking skills. Common Core State Standards want students to annotate when they read, fill in outlines, and write analytical argumentative essays. My students need to make claims, cite evidence, and do an analysis of their evidence. Using an ELMO will help simultaneously teach organization and state standards. When students are absent, it's nice to have all of your class notes in an organized notebook for the students to copy when they get back. If you take notes on a dry erase board your absent students will have to rely on their classmates' notes and if you use large chart paper you are killing trees.
With this technology I will be able to make learning more hands on, and interactive, which will help my students to remain focused and on task.
Currently, I have one antique for a computer, needed to take attendance. Any addition of technology to our classroom will help foster a more positive and appropriate learning environment for my students.
