Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I serve as a 4th grade English language learner (ELL) reading and language arts teacher. My student population is 100% Hispanic. Most of my students scored at Levels 1 and 2 on the state-mandated test. English is currently a second language for most of my students.It is my desire to motivate my students to be avid readers and writers.
It is for this reason that I have decided to kick off this much-needed literacy/writing project.
I work at a Title I school, where approximately 95% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. A large majority of the population are recent immigrants to the country. Financial assistance from donors would really help my girls continue doing what they love to do at all times.
My Project
I teach reading and writing to ELL students. It is often a struggle to keep them engaged without the use of technology. I want to motivate my students to become avid readers and writers. Research show that reading a writing stirs up the imagination of a child.
My project is to assist my ELL students in becoming published authors.
With a chromebook and printer, my students will have the latest technological advancements at their fingertips. That way, they will be able to create and print images for their amazing books. It is a beautiful thing to foster learning and creativity in children.
