Elevating the Arts

Help me give my students supplies for drawing: lights and manikins to learn how to draw proportions well using multiple light sources. Silk hoops will be used in the painting class for students to try a new media.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach art at a Title I school, which at times can be challenging to get funding for supplies.

What I love about my school is that my students know how to match your efforts; when you give them 100% they give you 110% of their effort.

My students might not have a lot in terms of material things or financial support, but they do know how to care when someone cares about them!

My hope is that this grant will provide supplies that elevate their art experience in the classroom. There's something about having a new tool or different technique to try out that can refresh learning and make it fun!

My Project

The manikins and lights will help the students to see cast shadows and learn about proportions on the human body. This will create more depth in students' artwork. Students in these beginning classes take their skills and advance onto Drawing 3 and AP Art providing students with a chance to earn college credit in the arts.

The painting class will use silk hoops to explore a new media they have not tried out before.

Hopefully, this will engage some of the students that might not be interested in painting due to limited media currently available.

Brushes are to restock our worn out brushes in painting class.
