My Students

My students come from all over the globe. The diversity is awesome and they experience the challenges that come from families relocating such as language and poverty. These students are eager to learn and make the most of each day.

They like to have fun and are working hard to become great readers.

First graders' work focuses on the word meanings, comprehension of story elements, and listening to themselves to make their reading sound just right. Help us rediscover the world through reading.

My Project

First graders love these books because they are funny and the words are not too hard.

It's always a joy for me to see a struggling student connect with a harder text and learn to read based on that single book they love.

Elephant and Piggie books are often those books for first graders. The characters are silly and the number of words on a page is not too overwhelming. These books are the right amount of challenge and engagement that make learning to read fun for them. These books are perfect for reading with a partner, one person reads Elephant's words and the other reads Piggie's words. Kids have fun learning new words and acting out the silly situations that Elephant and Piggie are in. Thank you for changing the way kids feel about reading with these books!
