Elementary Voting

My Students

I am privileged to teach 45 outstanding students. My students are very inquisitive, creative, and extremely clever. We are a Title I school where over two-thirds of the population receives free or reduced-price lunch. Even through adversity, these students are still resilient, excited, and enthused about learning.

Our school is very culturally diverse, extremely competitive, and we strive for excellence daily.

Willing, ready, and always trying to stand out above the rest, we need to produce competitive scholars for the future. We are shining stars and would love to shine with or above the rest.

My Project

Help scholars get a better understanding of an election voting process with The Chocolates vs The Gummies mock election. This activity will integrate social studies and math. The students will create graphs, math word problems and other math skills associated with voting. Students will be assign a chocolate- (Snicker’s, Reese’s, Twix’s, Hershey’s) or a gummy-(Starbursts Skittles, Sour Patches, Airheads)and campaign why classmates should vote for a particular one. The students will use the storage clipboards for keeping organized.

This class activity will be a fun, engaging and different way to learn about the voting process.

The mock election is tailored to fifth grade students and something that can spark their interest and understanding in becoming life long voters when appropriate age.
