My students need props to help them move to a variety of musical styles. These props will help them to flow, keep a steady beat, and play rhythm patterns.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"We are the music makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams." - Arthur O'Shaughnessy
Please help us make, shake, and move to music! These props will help students interact with classical, patriotic, folk, jazz, and world music.
Our public school was built in the early 1900's and serves an eclectic community.
Seventy percent of students receive free or reduced lunch. Our dual language program has been very successful at increasing student achievement in all subject areas. My students love coming to music and learning about many styles of music. We have a thriving music program with K-5 general music classes, Chorus and an Instrumental Ensemble. We do not have a budget for music classroom supplies.
My Project
We will use the scarves and beanbags to move to music with flow, which helps students feel the space between rhythms. We will also use them like ghosts, kites, firecrackers, and whatever else we can think of while making sound effects, or vocal exploration, which helps to develop students' singing voices. We will use the egg shakers and rhythm sticks to explore steady beat and perform rhythm patterns during songs, chants, and recorded music. Older students will play stick-passing games with 2-, 4-, and 8-beat patterns that help them develop coordination and cooperative social skills.
Music education has evolved over the years to include more interactive experiences for students.
When elementary students use props to listen and create music, they are engaging in music play which is appropriate for their age level. These imaginative experiences also allow us to address multiple state standards in one activity. Please help us update our classroom supplies so we can make our music learning more interactive.
