Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
By the end of the school year, I want to see my students being able to have everyday conversation with some fluency, so they they can feel more comfortable living in America.
My students are mostly newly arrived English language learners from South American and Asian countries.
Some of them have been in the country for about a year or more and are entering and emerging English language learners. There are also several students with interrupted formal education in my classroom who need a lot of personal attention. In my classroom, you can hear more than 10 different languages spoken, but the predominant language spoken is Spanish.
My Project
For this project, I am requesting electronic Spanish - English translators. As entering and emerging learners, my students need help translating basic words so that they can communicate in every day language. Although our classroom currently has some paper dictionaries, but using these electronic ones will help them find and translate words more quickly and easily so that they can better comprehend lessons and materials. Moreover, these translators will be helpful for my students with interrupted education because they can get assistance they need right away with translators instead of waiting for me to get to them. Mostly, students will be using them during reading and writing assignments and to help each other during projects.
This project will make a difference in various ways.
It will save me time so I can plan better activities or circulate and give students feedback instead of trying to find a proper translation or look up a picture to show what a simple word. In addition, it'll keep students more engaged in their work since it will be easier for them to look up words. They will be able to share translations. I hope these translators will help them become masters of their own language development.
