Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a vibrant bunch of boys and girls who just want to be able to learn just like everyone else. Their intellectual disabilities often prevent that from happening. They all have different backgrounds. My students are a mixture of nationalities, languages, and disabilities. This is part of what makes them special. What they have in common is trauma, poverty, and a desire to learn despite their disabilities. Most of these are not qualities they are proud of, but they deal with what they are given. The results are mixed, but their drive never stops.
My Project
My students learn in many different ways. Some are able to learn with repetition, some learn using the computer, some learn with hands on games, and some learn using other electronics. We have all the other stuff, but my classroom is severely lacking in electronics that can help the students not only learn basic skills, but also build on the skills they already have!
I have seen these products in action and I know they will help my lowest students gain skills, and my higher students improve theirs!
Osmo can help my students spell words, match numbers and letters, and even make pictures using their own creativity! Tiggly Words will help them match letters and sounds in a way that we have not been able to tap into. It will also give immediate feedback, which is so important to my students, that I cannot always give in a full classroom.
I am excited to be able to use programs that are engaging and use characters my students are familiar with. I think this is a wonderful way to help learning come to life and keep my students motivated!
