Hi! I teach science in a rural, high poverty, high school. My students are exceptionally bright but they need to be able to use high-tech equipment before they get in a college setting where they are competing with students from higher income districts. My students are very capable, but they need to have a level playing field before they can show their brilliance!
My students are handicapped by a lack of materials and equipment. Many of my students are already hooked on science. But they need equipment, often expensive, in order to prepare them for college science classes. There is nothing worse than attending your first lab and realizing that you don't know even what the material is used for.
We need electrophoresis equipment in order to prepare our students for possible careers in forensics and genetic biology.
Without your support, my students will never have the opportunity to use electrophoresis equipment. It would just be one more thing that they could not participate in.
