My Students
My students have been removed from their home middle schools for safety violations, such as bringing weapons to school, assault, and drug related incidents. My students are carrying heavy loads of unprocessed trauma, poverty, financial stress, and a self confidence deficit in addition to difficulties in school.
My students have a demonstrated capacity to harm themselves and others; I believe access to music can help them put down their burdens and find themselves.
Most of them were never able to afford pets, extracurricular activities, or access to making music. I believe they can transform themselves and their communities with the experience of a little success.
My Project
My students are stuck at home in a resource poor environment. They have access to electronic devices but they don’t have access to make art, just be passive consumers of content. I want to use these amps in conjunction with electric guitars I have and some extra player packages to let my students who are motivated check out guitars so they can take them home and improve their playing in the time I have with them. This will help us utilize the recording studio we have with students who can write their own music and accompany themselves. This will also help students who are struggling emotionally express how they feel and, quite literally, amplify their expression.
