Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the privilege of working with some of the most hardworking students I have ever met. They might come from low-income, high-poverty areas, but their thirst for knowledge is inspiring. Our school is Title I where most students get free or reduced-price lunch. Even though every student understands where they come from, when they come to my class, they are like every other child in the world. They love music, sports, TV, movies, and video games. They are smart, funny, creative, happy, and motivated young people.

All of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and love our lunches!

However, we waste so much food. Our gifted and STEAM programs have already started cultivating our courtyard to grow our fruits and vegetables.

This composter will help these programs reduce the waste coming from our cafeteria and help grow these plants.

Our goal is to educate students on how to become healthy for a lifetime. When we see that lightbulb click, we can gradually and consistently instill the power and confidence that education brings to their lives.
