Help me give my students supplies like paint markers and calligraphy pens. Art and creativity are a huge part of my ELA lessons. My 7th grade students work to create, collaborate and engage while we become better readers.

My Project

Students often collaborate on a culminating, creative project after each unit of study. Assignments ask students to reflect on what we read and learned throughout the unit. As a group project, students create an artistic representation of the themes and ideas in that particular unit.

Paint, markers, pens, sketchbooks and much more allow students to explore the creative ways authors communicate their ideas to readers.

Students work with their hands and with their peers to build, collaborate and create in order to produce an artistic expression of the major themes and concepts studied in that unit. Students who explore texts from a creative outlet will often be able to connect texts back to an essential question and theme. They can explain the techniques authors use to convey meaning to their readers, analyze figurative language, symbolism and theme, and master complex skills and critical thinking all because they had the supplies to be creative, think critically and communicate effectively.
