Einstein Would Want This to Happen.

Help me give my students lab equipment that allows them to explore the quantum nature of light. Measurement tools to quantify electrical power produced by solar emissions are combined with a demonstration of the quantum nature of light.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ross's classroom raised $571

My Project

As technology moves forward, students are expected to understand new materials and new ways of storing information. With the advent of quantum computing and the need for people who understand new technology on the rise, we can't teach physics the same way we've been teaching it.

Einstein won his Nobel Prize for describing the Photoelectric Effect in a new, specific way.

Because of his work, engineers and scientists have learned how to manipulate light energy to improve everything from solar panels to semiconductors. This lab exposes students to the idea of light as packets of energy that behave in a manner that can be predicted. It's a way of leading students into an interest in quantum physics at an early level so that they can move in that direction if they choose.

This lab falls under our new Physics state standards in South Carolina.

The demonstration: Quantitative Electroscope with a Type-C UV light.

The lab: solar panels and tools for measuring the voltage and amperage of light to a correct scale, plus filters to change light frequencies.
