This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We currently have a group of 19 students who would like to start a Salmon in Schools program at our high school. The purpose of Salmon in Schools is to bridge the gap between salmon conservation and youth activism through salmon recovery programs.
Students will be raising salmon fry over the course of the year and releasing them in the spring to both understand the life cycle of salmon and their contribution to our local ecosystem while aiding in salmon recovery efforts.
Students have already sourced most of the equipment that we need, with only an aquarium chiller remaining. Adding this to what we have will allow them to start this project and hopefully launch many years of engagement in this work.
