Help me give my students the opportunity to witness the wonder of life cycles firsthand by providing a safe and engaging environment to hatch and care for baby chicks in our classroom.
In this project, first-grade students will engage in a hands-on exploration of life cycles by observing the hatching and care of baby chicks in our classroom. Using a brooder box, playpen, and cleaning kit, students will witness the transformation from egg to chick, deepening their understanding of science concepts through direct experience. This aligns with Wyoming science content and performance standard 1-LS1-2, which asks students to read texts and use media to determine patterns in behavior of parents and offspring that help offspring survive. Through daily observation, journaling, and discussion, students will build inquiry skills, empathy, and responsibility.
