Egg Hatching Exploration: Connecting Students to Birds and Life Cycles
Help me give my students in a Title I Philadelphia school a hands-on, experience through the Quiver Farm's egg hatching program, aligning with our current curriculum module on birds and informational texts while fostering curiosity and responsibility.
Classroom egg-hatching programs provide students with an unforgettable, hands-on learning experience that brings science standards to life. Observing the incubation process, monitoring the development of ducklings, and caring for living organisms inspire curiosity and foster a sense of responsibility and patience.
These activities create a unique opportunity for students to connect scientific concepts to real-world experiences, deepening their understanding of birds’ life cycles, physical characteristics, and survival adaptations.
The duck-hatching project will serve as a cornerstone of our ILC First Grade Module 3 curriculum, which focuses on the structure and function of animals. By integrating this project with literacy and research-based lessons, students will build essential skills such as identifying key details in informational texts, asking and answering questions, and understanding how illustrations support comprehension. They will also develop their ability to organize and present research findings clearly and thoughtfully.
