This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are considered a Title I school, and 95% of our students qualify for free lunch. Our school is located in South Central Los Angeles, and we service 60% Latino/Hispanic and 40% African American students.
Recently, there has been an influx of Central Americans that have enrolled, which means we need to provide our students with more language support.
Along with language support, we need to provide students with emotional and social learning tools.
We provide instruction for grades PreK-5th, and our current school population is about 450 students.
My Project
Students will benefit from more interactive tools that allow students to be more engaged. Younger students have a difficult time staying focused for longer periods of time. This would allow for interactive visuals that can later be used in the classroom when it is safe to go back. It is expected that students will be able to collaborate in constructive conversations and expand their language through usage of these tools. This project will allow for me to be able to ask students to use sentence frames to express their thoughts.
