Effective Technology for Meaningful Distance Learning

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a Special Education classroom because they have moderate to severe disabilities impairing their developmental growth such as adaptive and social skills. As much as we want them to be integrated to the general education setting, they need to spend much of their time in my classroom to receive support from the rigorous demand of the learning process.
The shift to distance learning has not changed their eagerness to learn, but all the more highlighted this desire.
We focus on learning functional skills such as daily living, personal care, functional academics, vocational, recreation and leisure, and community-based instruction.
My Project
Since we started with distance learning, new learning opportunities have sprung and have benefited my students. As a teacher who loves integrating technology with instruction, I have taken advantage of this moment to promote better engagement and interaction with online content. My students and their families have given positive feedback with my approach, which does not only validate the platform but also boosts my motivation to continue teaching.
The only way moving forward now is to seize more opportunities using effective technology that will help deliver a quality and meaningful online instruction.
This project will not only give me more leverage to reach my students, but also provide avenue for differentiation based on their unique learning needs. As we continue with distance learning, the use of this effective technology will all the more empower the teaching and learning process.
