This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how excited you were to learn new things during music class? Well, I would like to extend that same excitement to my students. Music is an interdisciplinary subject, which greatly enhances learning, in other areas.
Presently, I teach elementary/middle school music, 5 - 8, at a high needs, public school in Illinois, where most of our students are either on free or reduced-price lunch.
Due to budget cuts, the school is unable to fund a music program for the school. Studies have shown that playing musical instruments has been linked to greater student achievement in school. Music, being an interdisciplinary subject, encompasses all subjects students encounter during their education.
My Project
Having learning materials, such as Kodaly in the Classroom, First We Sing, Folk Dance Fun, Sing Say Dance, and Kodaly-Inspired Teaching for the Music Classroom will allow the students a chance to explore music, experience the fulfillment of learning and completing a new task, and greatly inspire them to progress to other instruments. The students will receive the satisfaction of learning how to read and sing music, and play musical instruments, and dance. Music is very entertaining, and allows for freedom of expression. My students deserve the opportunity to express themselves through music, and learning using the Kodaly Method and playing instruments, and dancing will provide that foundation.
Music is the universal language, and it provides an experience that will allow the students to appreciate the creative process and develop a commitment to excellence.
Your donations will help the students to experience music on a greater level through their performance. The students at this school are very enthusiastic about music and should have a top notch music program. This can only be possible with your help!
