Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom consists of a healthy breakfast that the district provides for us. My goal for my students is to reinforce that a healthy lifestyle just don't start with a balanced breakfast. I plan to instill into my students that regular exercise will increase focus and motivation.

My students come from a low socio economic school community in which a healthy nutritional lifestyle isn't the priority.

For the most part my students work hard and the majority love to play sports. I would like to instill a lifestyle of physical fitness that is unlike what they see at recess or lunch. I was introduced to agility training about a year ago. It helped me lose 35lbs and really help my energy and focus shoot through the roof. My students enjoy my health lessons that focus on learning to eat and live a healthy lifestyle. I want to take their motivation and curiosity to another level by taking what I know about strength and agility and applying it to our 200minutes of mandated Physical education time every 10days by the our district.

My Project

These resources will be used to work on core strength using the Yoga mats and agility speed ladders and cones. I plan to set up stations that incorporate quick exercises that the students can enjoy doing on a weekly basis. I plan to document progress based on number of reps completed as well as how quickly they finish the workouts. For example, a typical workout with have a lap around the track, 10kettle bell swings, 30jump ropes, speed ladder and then 5sit ups using the medicine ball. This would be a workout that could be repeated 2or3 times for a benchmark time.

I plan to make a difference in the students by not just instilling a love for learning but, a love in themselves and a realization that hard work in your mind is also achieved through the body and how well you take care of yourself.
