This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach ENL (English as a New Language) in a District 75 high school. District 75 provides highly specialized instructional support for students with significant challenges, such as: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Significant cognitive delays, Emotional disabilities, Sensory impairments, and Multiple disabilities. My students are amazing, courageous, and determined human beings challenged with disabilities as well as language challenges. My students are instructed in small groups in English using visual and tactile resources. My students home language consist of: Haitian Creole, Fulani, Spanish, Arabic, Uzbek, Chinese, Bengali, Mandarin, Russian, and Urdu.
To help support my students various needs, I would like to offer memorable and immersive experiences that would otherwise not be possible.
I am requesting virtual reality headsets for my small group sessions. Virtual Reality technologies are exciting tools that involve a safe and supportive environment to transfer knowledge between virtual and real worlds. Through such technology teachers can educate, motivate, and increase classroom interaction for students of all ages and abilities by making learning more accessible, memorable, practical, and engaging.
I have a total of 40 students that I teach, I pull small groups of 3-5 students at a time. I am requesting 5 virtual reality sets, these materials will help make a difference in my students learning by allowing them to “travel” to different places and enhance learning by allowing students to interact with their lessons and experience it in different ways. Instead of just reading about a subject, students are able to see the things they are learning, helping students understand complex topics. Virtual Reality experiences will support ALL of my students learning, regardless of their disabilities and language challenges.
