Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach second grade in a Title 1 school. My students are at or below poverty level living in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. All of my students qualify for a free breakfast and lunch. My class consists of 12 amazing girls and 10 "ready to go" boys. They enjoy being challenged academically and physically everyday. They are in the Limited English Proficiency program levels 1 and 2. My students are creative, inquisitive, hard working, and eager to learn about the world around them, as well as themselves. In the classroom my students work in a whole group, independently as well as in teams. They encourage each other to grow and explore their wonderful world of learning. My school is in a large district in Los Angeles.

Physical education will give my students the opportunity to learn about the relationships between nutrition, exercise, and health, while acquiring basic body management skills such as: The ability to stop and start on signal, spatial awareness, body part identification, balance and control.

My Project

I want to promote gross motor development and large muscle control through active play experiences. I am requesting Adorox Bean Bag Toss Game Set Sporty Bean Bag Corn Hole Outdoor Indoor Game, foam frisbees, balls, and dance scarves.

Physical activity will help my students focus better in the classroom, increase their social skills, and encourage an active lifestyle.

These materials will be available to my young children as part of their everyday routines. My students will have fun and "play" as they learn important motor and developmental skills, as well as setting their own personal and achievable goals. Being active can be a fun, natural habit.
