Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are learning disabled. Their disabilities or learning needs are mixed. They are a unique group to me. We are a six, seventh and eight grade, self-contained class. I work with the students in small groups and one-on-one. We have a close-knit environment, and all of my students are eager to learn.
Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area and most of our student population is culturally diverse.
The computers assigned to our class run extremely slow or do not work at all. As a special education teacher, it is very important to help my students access online information that helps them complete projects at home and in school, but most of my students do not have a computer or internet at home. Many of my students are working below grade level in reading and language arts. Our goal, as a class, is to make learning gains daily in order for all the students to reach grade level by the end of the school year.
My Project
The materials requested will aid the students in completing class projects and research information for the class. The iPad case will help protect the iPad as it will be used very often. The students love technology and the iPad will be a reward to encourage them to learn and to research information for our class projects.
The students love to work in groups and they get very excited when they learn new information to share with the rest of the class.
The students will use the iPad to present their research findings to the class. Most of the students do not have any computers at home and they will be eager to complete projects using the iPad.
