My students need a Nook Color eReader for new avenues of inspiration and a wide array of selection when it comes to reading. I'm asking for a nook center to help provide this opportunity.

My Students
I can't begin to tell you how many times I tell my first graders "look at the book it will speak to you." Get to know it and it may become a good friend or at least a teacher. After 15 years of teaching I find the ability for kids to stay focused on a book is more and more challenging.
My first graders are a diverse group both economically and culturally of energetic 6-7 year olds.
They range in reading levels from just starting to read to reading chapter books. They come from an error of choice and need many choices to find one they may like. They learn best when they can be hands on with what they're learning. They need color, action and to be taught calmness in order to learn. They like gadgets and toys and mainly things that they can touch. They're apart of a huge state that is lacking in funding and teachers and parents that are struggling to put it all together as well. They deserve access to the best most exciting learning experiences but are often shorthanded by the system. They can learn anything given the right tools, attention and instruction along with inspiration.
My Project
My first graders need a Nook Color eReader for new avenues of inspiration and a wide array of selection when it comes to reading. My students will be more engaged during classroom library time. They will be hooked on their Nooks. They will also have the opportunity to quickly find books on their reading level in fiction and non fiction. They will have the flexibility of listening to the story or reading along. They will be highly engaged readers. I will be able to purchase more books on the nook than I can afford from the bookstore and they can be used forever. They will not rip tear or end up being damaged by chocolate or dirty hands. I can have all the best literature loaded for them instead of whatever the district supplies as well as the supplemental reading for each unit. My students will learn to love all kinds of books and see how technology can make them more accessible. They will also be able to search for books they want and possibly earn them as rewards. However instead of it being a reward that lasts a second it will be one that will last the lifetime of my classroom. We can also have small nook circles
Help us enter the modern world in a positive way.
Help children regain more focus thru tools they can relate to and that speak to them. This is their generation let them have access to the keys of it early on. Get them away from the idea that the computer is mainly for violent video games and step them into new connections with technology like rich reading and conversations with others whom are reading the same thing ! The impact these nooks will have on my students will be life long.
