"See the light in others, and treat them as if that is all you see." I choose to keep this quote for each project that I do because there is so much truth in those words. Dr. Wayne Dyer spoke straight to my heart with his words. Teaching in a self-contained special education classroom, this is one of my greatest hopes for my students. I want people to see the light in them, no matter how it chooses to shine.
I teach a wide range of ability levels in my classroom.
We are a second and third grade self-contained special education classroom with seven students this year. I have had students that can read every sight word you put in front of them and then I've had students that can not read any of them, who are working on letter identification. I have had students who can add and subtract and students who are still learning their numbers. They all vary so much, but one thing remains constant between them all. They are here to learn and I want to give them the best education I possibly can. I want to give them what each and every child deserves!
My Project
We have been using the Edmark Reading program in my classroom for 5 years now. It is a fantastic program for students with disabilities that are learning to read. It is actually designed for children with Autism and other developmental delays. We have seen non-verbal children learn to read through using this program in our classroom! It is WONDERFUL! This program has been in my classroom longer than I have and ours is solely computer based and we fear the day that we get a new computer and can no longer use the software because of the license limit. Which is where this paper version comes in! They are no longer offering the software version of this program and we want to go ahead and shift over to the paper version before our old computer crashes. We know this is a great program and cannot wait to use it in a different format!
I know this is a big, lofty project and that we are asking a lot but, I promise you that it will be put to good use and that your donations will truly be priceless when children who struggle with reading, or can't read at all, begin to read.
Let's change the lives of these children and help them take the steps to becoming readers!
I believe that education is freedom, let's do this!
