My Students

Every beginning of class, my students come in and immediately throw themselves into writing and critically thinking about art.

My students are curious, thoughtful, and incredibly eager to learn about art.

They fully understand that their art classroom and school have a culture of high expectations and that they are learning not only art practices but about their broader community and world through the study of artworks and how to read visual information that they come into contact with daily.

My Project

With the purchase of Scholastic Art Magazine for Kids, my students will be able to regularly come in contact with articles and readings about not just the practice of art and famous artists, but also students like them that are creating art in other parts of the country. By integrating reading into the art classroom, students will realize that the visual arts is a researched and rich course of study. This will also give students an additional opportunity to daily practice their reading and critical thinking skills in a different setting than typical. With the purchase of multiple other varieties of art supplies such as fiber arts materials, and acetate sheets, students will receive a broad and exploratory art experience.

With these donations, my students will be able to read articles and create artwork that will help them interpret the world around them.

In addition to creating beautiful works of art, I believe it is my job as an art teacher to help students understand and talk about the visual information that they come into contact with everyday.
