Edison Artists: An Exploration of Research and Mixed Media!

My students need reading materials, a camera, origami paper, printmaking materials, as well as fiber arts materials. They are excited to read and explore all aspects of art!

My Students

My student artists are yearning to engage with new artworks and reading materials. When I say "smartest," they say, "artists!" My students understand the importance of finding meaning and reasoning behind their work. Art is not only about creating artwork from paper and pencil but being able to read and do research about artists and artwork that help them understand their place in the world. Art is not just about papers and pencils, it is about mixed media as well as research!

My Project

A set of scholastic art magazines will help our students have reading experiences that are related to art and current events. This will help the students with understanding arts place in the world while also working on the student's reading skills. Materials such as felt and needles will give the students an opportunity to work with fiber arts and learn sewing skills. A camera would give student artists the opportunity to learn about photography as well as lighting and composition.

Giving students the opportunity to explore and create while also being able to read about art and view themselves as artists in the world, is an opportunity that I desperately want to give my student artists.
