Help me give my students my students motivating and healthy edible and non-edible incentives and brain break snacks that encourage positive behaviors and academic growth.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have the best job as a school counselor working at a PK-8 school. I am the only counselor serving over 660 students. We are not a title-funded school, and in my district, school counselors receive no budget to buy counseling curriculum, play therapy tools or bibliotherapy. Much of what I need to run a counseling program for my students comes out of my pocket with no reimbursement.
This project includes healthy snack options and non-edible rewards for students for reaching both social and/or academic goals.
These can provide a much needed brain and energy boost as well as incentive to continue making positive choices.
I believe nutrition is vital in a students success at school. Some students do not have a home that can provide snacks. Learning and regulating emotions on an empty stomach is not easy. I would like to eliminate the obstacle of hunger so that we can focus on great learning opportunities. In addition, I would like the students that come to see me to have access to healthy snacks as well as non-edible rewards. When students are dealing with challenges, building social and academic skills and working through challenging situations, it's valuable to have healthy choices to reward their success.
I believe strongly that this project will go a long way to help the students feel more successful and less stressed during their school day.
