My Students
As the music teacher of the only non-audition based music school in New York City, I strive to give my students every opportunity. UAMA was opened less than 12 years ago with the mission to give all students, regardless of their prior knowledge, an opportunity to learn and grow in the arts.
95% of the students are of black or Hispanic heritage, and 80% qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Although many of our students' math and reading skills fall below grade level, they are intelligent, passionate, and all performers at heart.
My Project
The use of guitars in my classroom is almost a daily activity. It is the one instrument that is played throughout the year continually. Unfortunately we have several guitars on the wall that are missing strings as we have no budget to replace them.
Your donation will provide replacement strings for the guitars that are currently missing one, and provide enough spares for the remainder of the school year.
Students will be able to learn complete chords and adapt to finger positions once they have all of their strings. Each student will be able to have their own guitar and not have to share as we approach performances. You can help make each guitar in the room usable!
