Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When you think about students learning English as a Second Language, you probably think about the teaching of grammar, vocabulary, and language. You are correct, but sometimes the teaching of these language domains might be taught in isolation.
Rethinking the way that we teach language, I have changed my instructional approach to integrate science and English Language Development.
We know that students learn best when we teach about items that matter to them, are hands-on activities, and create curiosity. This year, I have created my professional development number 1 need to integrate Science with English Development in teaching English Language Learners (ELs).
Students will be learning about Ecosystems this semester. In preparation for the hands-on activities, I am requesting grassland type of paper to use as a background to display students' ecosystems. The hot glue would be used to glue items together in their ecosystem. Ink will be used to print in color student’s chosen organisms, producers, and consumers. Finally, incentive rewards will be given to students for their hard work during our science unit.
The glue sticks and Play-Doh will be preparation for students' ecosystem science projects. The glue gun will be used so I can make a box to display their projects. Thank you so much for reading the intent of this project. I cannot wait to display my students' work about ecosystems.
