This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are new to the middle school environment, and always look forward to a new day at school. You can see the excitement in their faces, as they happily and anxiously walk into to science class. They are always excited to see what the day will unfold.
The educational experiences they encounter brings them one step closer to a successful future.
This belief is reflected in their faces.
My students face struggles on a daily basis, yet they still manage to show up every day, and work hard for a better future. The vast majority are underprivileged, and come from low socio-economic backgrounds. For some, school is their stable and safe refuge.
Day in, and day out, my students see how much their parents sacrifice for them. That is why they are eager; they deeply desire a better future for themselves, and their families.
Our school is a safe place for my students in that we have small classroom sizes, and focus on educational experiences that meet their needs in order to prepare them for college. Teachers and staff work together to create a nurturing, and safe environment that allows our students to grow, and be successful.
My Project
My sixth graders are learning about our environment, and the ecosystems near and far away from us. We are learning about the positive and negative impacts on these, and what we can do to conserve them.
In class, my students participate in small activities, and labs that helps them comprehend these ideas.
This project will cover the bus transportation so my students can visit the California Science Center. This field trip will provide my students with an experience that goes beyond the classroom, and will further impact them as they make connections across multiple elements.
The Science Center has a great variety of exhibits that make real life connections, and much more information that is often time missed in class due to time constraints. Students will be able to participate in activities, engage their minds, and live experiences that will ultimately help them find significance to what we are learning in class. When they find significance, they demonstrate comprehension of what we have learned, and will be able to apply their knowledge.
In addition, the visit to the Science Center will be a first time museum experience for many of our students. This is an opportunity for them to explore the educational venues beyond their neighborhood, and further develop their desire for a successful future.
