My Students

A day in the life of the Discovery Lab is seeing students from Kindergarten through fourth grade work on real world STEM projects. They love working with their hands to experience and figure out how things work. Getting students ready for the future and learning programming through robotics is key!

My future engineers come to school wanting to learn and work hard because school is the safest place for them.

When they enter the Discovery Lab, the excitement builds because they know they have challenges that they need to face like engineers, scientist, and other professionals do in the real world. Students love working with their hands to create something or solve a problem through using the Engineering and Design Process. Students move from asking questions to imagining their ideas to planning out their investigation, then onto building their prototype and endless amounts of testing to get the result they desire, while constantly going back to improve their design. The best part is when they present their findings and the pride they feel from this accomplishment. Our school is also a wonderful place to learn because of the environment created by the staff. We show our love of learning to help foster that in our students, while taping into their individual learning needs.

My Project

My students will use these project based learning resources to help them make the world a better place. Each of the kits chosen has a way to impact their own lives. The pollination kit will help students learn the value in protecting vulnerable populations of birds, bees, butterflies, and beetles that contribute to our food supply by pollinating flowers. The water kit will help students figure out a way to protect one of earth's most precious resources: water! The energy kit will help them produce renewable energy that it is as efficient and cost-effective. My students will be able to take their new found knowledge and apply it their own lives. This will make the affect of learning a lasting one... they can put their newly figured out problems to use with their own families. This way, the learning keeps going and going.

Please help my students unleash their creative abilities in the engineering and design process to see how their work can affect the world around them!

Projects like this give my students that added edge they need to help compete for a seat at a STEM middle/high school to push them to their future careers in engineering!
