My Students
If we don't protect our Earth, who will?
It seems like such a simple question but for my second graders, it is a monumental discovery!
My second graders are eager scientists ready to explore, observe, and preserve as much as we can!
My second grade students come from neighborhoods full of apartment complexes and homes that are too small for backyards and science exploration.
Our school, which services a vast special needs and multi-lingual population, is a neighborhood school that has been serving generations of families. Our students are mostly from low-income households and rarely get to experience things beyond our school yard.
My Project
With help from generous donors, these PolliNation and Earth kits from EcoSTEM will help to extend our learning outside of our classroom walls. We've talked greatly over the last few weeks about conservation and protection of our Earth and it's natural resources. We've researched the Pacific "Trash" Island (as my students call it) and we've taken nature walks to observe the world around us and clean up our school yard from litterbugs.
With these kits we can develop our own garden, tend our own plants, and get a better understanding of what goes into true preservation of our Earth through the development of composting and minimizing waste.
We all know we should do a better job of preserving our Earth but busy lives prevent many of us from making the decisions to actively do so each day.
With your help and generosity, I can help my students to learn, at an early age, about conservation and preservation so that it is second nature to them, and not an afterthought.
