This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Here is your chance to make a difference for all of those young people who are good but have made terrible decisions. These students are beyond "at-risk", and are by far the neediest students in California.

Thanks to Donorschoose, we have developed a science program that really engages even the most hardened, unhappy young man or woman in our school. Many students have had perfect attendance since we began our fieldwork in a nearby park, and in the Bay. These are high school students that really haven't been engaging in school for a long time, if ever.

Our students need to connect to curriculum and training that really provides a pathway out of crime, gang violence and the very difficult economic barriers they and their families face. Your donation will get professional as well as university quality, lab-grade environmental science sensors in the hands of the students that need them the most. In this way you are actually putting hope in their hands, because they get to do REAL SCIENCE with very precise equipment. Starting with a LogIT Black Box 3-Channel Data Logger, a broad range of field testing sensors that will connect to the laptop computer that the students received through very generous donations (yeah Donorschoose!). The data the students collect will be of interest to the local, State and Federal park services in our area, as well as the many environmental groups that are working to protect and restore California's wetlands.

This is the project for you if you have been concerned about the environment, as well as children that need your support. Your donation will help put my students on a healing path. A path of study that teaches them to love all living things. They learn to love being alive and really can't wait to get back to school and out into nature. We will be documenting all of our work into a documentary for their portfolios as well as shooting a lot of photographs that will amaze you.
