This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Please help my students understand the extent to which they have control over their health!! I am a 10th grade Living Environment (biology) teacher in a high-need community in the Bronx. I currently teach students who have special needs, who are either special education or English Language Learners (ELL). My school is based on the Expeditionary Learning Model, which uses project-based activities and case-study approaches to bring learning to life for the students.

Unfortunately, we are a new school, and our funding is limited and science supplies are often the last to be considered. My students are fascinated by the Ebola virus, and it would be amazing if I could use this to teach them about the immune system, pathogens, health and cell biology!

In order to bring this idea to life my students need microscopes to see various bacterial pathogens that they will culture in petri dishes. This project will not only benefit these children by giving them a hands-on learning activity, but it will reinforce concepts that they will need to understand throughout their lives - the idea of micro-organisms, pathogens, and disease.

You will make it possible for students with special needs who have very few resources to empower themselves by being a part of their own learning. Your donation will make a difference in many children's' lives.
