Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Flexible seating allows the students to be more self-aware of the seating types and the environment in which they learn best. A shift in mindset allows the students to know and understand that mistakes happen, and when those occur, learning is taking place.
I would like to use the flexible seating and calm down area in my classroom to allow my students to develop critical lifelong skills, not limited to problem solving, self reflections, autonomy, and collaboration.
The overall goal of a calm down corner is to provide a child with a space in which they'll feel safe recognizing and regulating their emotions in a healthy way.
With the books, bean bags, and calm down supplies (canopy, rug) that I have requested, my students will be able to spend their time on their own or with a friend or teacher, when their emotions are running high.
My request for flexible seating and the calm down area will help my students with EBD build self-awareness and self-management, relationship skills with their own feelings and also help to self-reflect on peer feelings.
