This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
During our Blobs or Line game, one of the prompts as students to group themselves according to the breakfast items they had that morning. It was during the second day of school that I learned 80% of my students had nothing to eat that morning. First period, second period, third period, they all reported the same. As we move into a season of gratitude, I ask that you please help me meet my students immediate needs.
Imagine sitting in a classroom, or going to work, for hours with nothing in your stomach.
That is the harsh reality of students at my Title I school. So although we offer breakfast food for our students, they just don’t have the time - late bus, late arrival, late drop offs - to get food into their system. There are so many outside factors impacting my students.
This project is to help create a no questions asked, free breakfast and beverage, cart. The items will be housed in storage containers to prevent exposure to elements and rodents. Students will be able to grab protein bars, cereal, pop tarts or juice when they arrive to English/ELA. If they can have one solid meal, they are on their way to changing the world.
