This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are beginning their first year of public school. Although, the first few weeks are tough and my students will be without their parents for the first time, they soon find that it is a fun place to be. They begin to show excitement and an eagerness to learn. Unfortunately, many of my students are overcoming several obstacles, such as coming from low economic households and not knowing the English language. Nevertheless, their willingness to learn is evident with the smiles on their faces as they use fun classroom tools to practice new skills.
Alphabet lacing beads and magnetic letters along with magnetic boards will help my students learn to spell and write their name at the beginning of the year.
I picture myself working with them in a small group as they try to form their name with the magnetic letters. Meanwhile my paraprofessional can be working with another group as they lace the letters of their names onto strings. The skill and the materials will be new to my students and I am sure they will be so excited to use them. Most importantly, they will be learning an important part of their self-identity - their name!
