Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher to an amazing group of second grade students. This year completely has changed what our daily rituals used to be. We have to greet each other with a mask covering our smiling faces, however, I can still see the excitement and happiness in their eyes.

The school they attend is classified as a Title I school; therefore most of them are "at-risk students".

All of them qualify to participate in the free breakfast and lunch programs. The community in which they live in is stricken by a high level of poverty. This, however, does not affect their desire to please me, which in turn makes me love my job even more so. I can only hope to impact them on the importance of striving for success.

My Project

All of my students are currently very interested in reading, so I want to have a central location to store the selected word family readers/books in the book display stand. The library mobile storage cart will hole the bins that each student has to hold a set of books they love to read daily during any free time they have between lessons. I want to give them the opportunity to increase their reading fluency that is tracked monthly.

My students have limited or no books at home, therefore, I hope to provide as much reading experiences for them while in our classroom.

Thank you in advance for sharing the importance of reading materials for young children that have had little to no access to age-appropriate books at their disposal.
