My Students

I am very excited to be in a new school and have a great new bunch of boys and girls this year. I teach in a small school where the student population is very, very diverse. The diversity is exciting! Boys and girls from all over the world are beginning their academic lives and growing together as they do it. Many of these families are not only new to our area but are also new to our country. It is wonderfully encouraging to me; as adult to see boys and girls of all different colors and many different languages getting along with each other and helping one another become the best kindergartner they can be. What a great picture of what our world should look like!

My Project

Our problem is that we have a relatively small classroom with very limited accessible storage. We have greatly benefited from the generosity of Donors Choose and its patrons! We have received several problem solving games, kits and activities along with some beautiful leveled reading sets. My class loves these materials and are very proud that we have such "cool" ways to learn in our classroom. We use many of these materials each and everyday as we strive to become good thinkers and readers. Right now all these materials are stored in plastic boxes on a high shelf; so that they have to be gotten down each time we need them. I found two items that I believe will help greatly with our center storage issues. The first one is a rolling cart with tubs, storage pouches and a pocket chart. The tubs will hold our building sets and the pouches will be perfect for writing and drawing supplies, the pocket chart will have the schedule of who goes to what center. The second is a set of multicolored drawers; each drawer will house a separate center. Both of these can be easily moved to where we need them. I am also asking for a rolling bookshelf to store our leveled readers. By having the shelf on wheels we can bring the books we need to whatever spot we choose i.e. on the learning carpet, in the reading corner or at the work table. All three pieces are at kid level!

By donating to this project you will help us to organize these wonderful resources in a way that the time the students use them will be optimized!!

In addition, these organizational items will allow me to maximize targeted instructional time during centers; instead of spending valuable teaching moments "getting things ready".
