This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work with struggling readers. The students I work with are not good at reading, and as we all know, we don't like doing things we are not good at. My students are not good at reading and they don't want to read. They struggle to find books that they are able to read that they don't feel embarrassed having their classmates seeing them read. Last year I was able to get a few easy chapter book series. The students read them, more so, they enjoyed them. They wanted to read more.
My students need more books that they are able to read and they want to read.
These early graphic novels are written at their ability level, but because they don't appear babyish, students aren't embarrassed being seen reading them.
