My Students
After 5 years in the corporate world, I am returning to my true passion of teaching! As you could probably imagine, I am starting from scratch, having donated my materials to the school where I previously taught. Having this easel will allow my students to interact with text and writing easier.
I teach in a school that serves a low-income community.
The overwhelming majority of students qualify for free lunch. This population is completely capable of learning to be GREAT readers, but are already behind their more affluent peers when it comes to literacy.
My Project
My students need access to a white board easel and dry erase markers while on the carpet, in order to work on reading and writing skills. Not only do I want to inspire my students to love reading and writing, but I want them to have as many opportunities to practice in a safe, supportive environment. Having an easel in my classroom will allow for more efficient processes so that we can maximize the amount of time spent on the good stuff - LEARNING! We will save valuable minutes that would be spent on transitioning from desk to the main white board by all gathering on the carpet to work at the easel.
Small tools in the classroom can make a HUGE impact.
I believe that an easel is an essential tool to the early impact on first grader's ability to practice writing, reading, and comprehension strategies with teacher guidance so they feel confident in their abilities.
